What is a Plan for College and Career Readiness (PCCR)?

The Plan for College and Career Readiness meeting is a meeting with your school counselor. The following items are discussed:

9th & 10th Grade

11th Grade

Checklist: Junior Year

Continue with community service and leadership positions
Plan and lead a community service project
Keep your GPA up
Use the Keys to Success app on your phone or be checking the website twice a month: https://www.ktsutah.org/
August-December
Talk with your parents about your college plans and finances
Take the PSAT test October 13th to enter the National Merit Scholarship Competition ($17, fee waivers available)
January-June
Complete the FAFSA4Caster at www.fafsa.ed.gov
Attend college fairs and assemblies – Higher Education Tour @ Ridgeline March 14, 2022
Attend Junior Plan for College and Career Readiness (PCCR) Assembly in March
Talk to college admissions representatives about scholarship programs for which you may qualify
Take the ACT at least once. A free state ACT will be offered in the spring for Juniors.
Consider taking the June ACT. Register online at www.actstudent.org

12th Grade

Checklist: Senior Year

Continue with community service and leadership positions
Keep your GPA up

Take the ACT again, or now if you haven’t already. Register online at www.actstudent.org
Start filling out forms and writing essays for college and scholarship applications
Keep a calendar of important deadlines for college admission and financial aid.
Plan to attend financial aid meetings offered in your area. Check with your counselor after school begins.
Complete the FAFSA on the Web Worksheet at www.fafsa.ed.gov
Apply for a federal student aid (FSA) ID at www.fsaid.ed.gov so you can e-sign the FAFSA for faster processing.
October-November
File your FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov
Submit college applications by priority deadlines for Academic/Merit Scholarships
December-January
Apply for admissions scholarships such as diversity, alumni, needs-based, involvement, and ambassador scholarships. (USU’s deadline is January 10th, Others are as early as December 1st)
February
Confirm receipt of your FAFSA and Admission application with your colleges.
March
Look for your Student Aid Report (SAR) in the mail; you should receive it within 2-4 weeks after filing online.
Review the SAR, if required; send any additional information to the colleges to complete the admissions and/or financial aid process.
